While ZimmDoodles has always focused on Cockapoos, we recently welcomed a handsome blue merle Poodle boy to our program! He brings a striking coat pattern, a playful personality, and the same loving temperament we value in all our dogs. With his arrival, we’ve had many questions about merle Poodles — so this post is here to share the facts, clear up misconceptions, and show why these dogs are just as wonderful as any other Poodle.
Merle is simply a coat pattern that gives a mottled, eye-catching look. Our merle Poodle boy is healthy, smart, and playful — the perfect combination for families looking for a loyal companion. His coat makes him unique, but his temperament and health are what truly stand out.
We also have a female Cockapoo in our program who is technically merle — but you’d hardly know it except for her beautiful blue eye! Her playful personality, affectionate nature, and overall health are exactly what you’d expect from any Cockapoo. This shows how merle is just a coat pattern and does not impact temperament or well-being.
We follow responsible breeding practices to ensure happy, healthy puppies. Our merle Poodle boy is paired only with non-merle females, avoiding any genetic risks associated with “double merle” puppies. Likewise, our female merle Cockapoo will never be bred with a merle, ensuring that all her puppies are healthy and safe. Both dogs have full health clearances, and we carefully monitor every breeding to prioritize temperament, health, and safety.
