How does doodle hair work? How come my puppy doesn't seem as curly as his siblings?
All generations of cockapoo puppies' coats are easy to maintain. We recommend brushing frequently for the puppy to get used to grooming expectations.
When you bathe them, use a gentle shampoo that won't dry them out. Around 5-6 weeks old, your puppy will have experienced their first bath. When you take them home, wait at least a few weeks before bathing them again. It will upset them to wash them too early before they're settled in, because their siblings and mom's scent will still be on them.
Around 8 months, the adult coat will start to come in. The easy puppy hair is gone and curls are growing in. The dog is moulting during this time, which can cause mats. You should brush him frequently. In dogs, moult is different from shedding, which means if the coat isn't brushed out, the coat will mat or go dreadlocks.
Cockapoos with straight coats can maintain their natural look. With just a brush 2-3 times a week and a bath every 2-3 months. It's still important to trim around the eyes and bum so it doesn't get too long.
Cockapoos like our Lucy that have a wavy coat require grooming. The hair is able to mat so you will need to brush often
These cockapoos have tight curls on their coats, like Luna and Drew. Instead of keeping their coats long, most keep them cut into a Teddy Bear style. The groomer can do it for you or you can learn how to clip it yourself. Some cockapoos grow excess hair in their ear canals, which can trap ear wax. I see this in poodles too, who also have excess hair in their ears.

Generations in all doodles mean that you need to look at the parents and further back to determine where the puppy fits in the generations.
The ability to see the breeder's home is a very important aspect when choosing a puppy. ZimmDoodles is very open about our home because of this reason. The purpose of this article is to provide you with an inside look at our home.
