The ability to see the breeder's home is a very important aspect when choosing a puppy. ZimmDoodles is very open about our home because of this reason. The purpose of this article is to provide you with an inside look at our home.
In the first few weeks, puppies are kept in a four-panel pen. Our bumper pads help keep mommy away from laying right against the sides of the pen, so she doesn't lay right on top of them.
With them running around and playing, we expand the pen to make room for more, and separate sleeping and playing areas. Including the potty area. By doing this, we teach the pups to keep their sleeping and playing areas separate from their potty areas. The majority of our pups are pee mat trained by the time they go to their new homes.
We're always looking for new toys and ways to let the pups explore their surroundings. Tunnels are a favourite toy, they love to chase each other through them or hide and pop out. Our newest addition to the puppy room is a ball pit. I am sure they will have a great time running around in there and chasing each other. Regular dog toys are also available for them, and these are always available to them.
The puppies are introduced to the other dogs in the house and encouraged to play with them. We find this helps them be less timid around bigger dogs. Our dogs in the house enjoy it when they are able to play with them.
Puppies are always supervised when certain toys are out to play with. Safety is the number one priority.
Keeping the puppies safe can mean many things but the biggest one is sanitizing. This can look like washing your hands before handling the newborns or putting fresh, clean blankets down in their pen. As they get older more needs to be done.
